What Is Fragrance Layering?
Share
Fragrance layering is one of the most effective techniques for getting more from every product you own — and it’s simpler than it sounds.
At its most basic, layering means applying multiple scented products in sequence so they build on each other. Each layer adds depth, complexity, and longevity to the overall scent experience.
The classic Mikas Aromas layering approach works like this: start with our tallow-based body butter or body frosting as your moisture base. The rich lipid profile grips fragrance beautifully and creates a nourishing foundation. Next apply your perfume body oil to your pulse points — inner wrists, neck, inner elbows. Finally if you also wear a matching perfume oil from our 15ml or 30ml range, apply it on top.
Each layer reinforces the same scent family, building something richer and more dimensional than any single product alone. And because each product releases fragrance at a slightly different rate, the overall wear time extends significantly.
You can also layer across complementary scent families — a soft musk body butter under a vanilla gourmand oil, or a clean fresh body oil under a floral perfume. The key is choosing scents that share at least one note anchor so they blend harmoniously rather than compete.
